Headliner Performers: The Blue Angels
 

A Blue Angels flight demonstration exhibits choreographed refinements of skills possessed by all naval aviators. The Blue Angels’ C-130, affectionately known as Fat Albert, begins each demonstration by exhibiting its maximum performance capabilities during a ten-minute performance. Shortly thereafter, you will see the graceful aerobatic maneuvers of the four-jet Diamond Formation, in concert with the fast-paced, high-performance maneuvers of its two Solo pilots. Finally, the team illustrates the pinnacle of precision flying, performing maneuvers locked as a unit in the renowned, six-jet Delta Formation.

Demonstration by the U.S. Air Force F-16 Viper East Demo Team
  Shaw Air Force Base is home to the Viper East Team, one of two F-16 aerial demonstration teams in Air Combat Command. The F-16 Fighting Falcon, more commonly known to military pilots as the Viper, is a compact, extremely maneuverable multi-role fighter aircraft. The F-16 has proven itself in air-to-air combat as well as air-to-surface attack. It provides a relatively low-cost, high-performance weapon system for the air forces of the United States and other allied nations.

Wingwalking and stunts by Kyle and Amanda Franklin and the Franklin Flying Circus

 

Wing walking with a twist…… Watch as Captain Kyro (Kyle Franklin) ascends in the infamous Waco Mystery Ship with his lovely lady (Amanda Younkin-Franklin) riding the lower wing through loops rolls, and hammer heads. When the timing is right, Captain Kyro's leading lady will climb the mast into the crow's nest on the upper wing. As the young wench scouts the skies for enemy vessels, the fearless captain will practice a series of evasive maneuvers such as torque rolls, tailslides, snaps, and tumbles. Should the enemy be sighted, these skills may decide the outcome of the impending battle. Reaching speeds in excess of 180mph and sustaining up to 5 positive and 3 negative G's, this aerial combat cruise is very demanding on Captain Kyro and his loyal wench. The duo will then demonstrate a series of freestyle maneuvers such as THE CAPTIAN, RAISING THE FLAG, and SWORDS. These skills may be the crew's only means of victory should the mighty cannons on the "Mystery Ship" fail. This demonstration of combat tactics of old will make front page news and surely be a major highlight of any airshow attended.

Aerial stunts by Matt Younkin

Matt Younkin’s Beech 18 performance is likely the most unusual act on the airshow circuit today. The Beech 18 was never designed for aerobatic flight; however that doesn’t make it incapable of doing just that. The performance is almost a mirror image of the one his father Bobby pioneered and flew for over 15 years. It begins with a roll on takeoff followed by a series of Cuban eights, point-rolls, and even a loop. The conclusion is a dirty pass dubbed the “Elephant Waltz” in which Matt rocks the huge transport’s wings more than 90 degrees with the landing gear and flaps extended!

 

The performance begins and ends to light-hearted music which capitalizes on an overly obese airplane executing maneuvers that its designers and airshow audience members alike never conceived possible for a large transport plane. As a contrast, the majority of the performance flows with beauty and grace to equally beautiful music and a special tribute to Bobby Younkin.

 

This is truly a show-stopping act and has been a major highlight in every airshow it has participated in for years.

Aerial stunts by Greg Poe

Greg will be featured in series "Stan Lee's Superhumans" airing early next year on History Channel HD. Chosen for his incredible G-force tolerance, Greg will be shown pulling up to 12 G's in his Fagen MX2. The show focuses on the incredible abilities of people around the world, and the science behind their special gifts. Our team went to the NASTAR Center in Philadelphia for Greg to fly their highly accurate multi-million dollar simulator. Their experts analyzed and gave commentary on Greg and his unusual tolerance for high G's.

Lee Lauderback and his P-51 Mustang 

The Flight Demonstration uses and is dedicated to the P-51 Mustang and its history as one of the most famous fighters of World War II. The demonstrations allow the public to see first hand the high performance maneuvering that allowed this remarkable aircraft to achieve such fame.

The ten-minute aerobatic routine is set to music and includes low level maneuvers such as vertical rolls, barrel rolls, inverted passes, Cuban eights, loops, point rolls and tuck-under break to landing.
